You’re probably thinking, can meditation really help me get pregnant? Well, taking time to clear your mind from nonstop thoughts can help reduce stress. Women who are stressed produce cortisol, prolactin and other hormones that can interfere with regular ovulation. Meditation is the start of a new habit that can help you gain control over your thoughts and give you peace of mind.

Meditating doesn’t just put you in a good mood. It can melt away stress and anxiety, reducing the risk of illnesses such as heart disease, asthma, and diabetes. When you take care of your mind, you are also taking care of your body.

How can I meditate?

Start by sitting comfortably on a cushion or lie down. Begin to breathe deeply, and focus on every breath you take. Breathe in and out so that both your stomach and your chest rise in and out. Don’t expect your thoughts to immediately go away; just observe the thoughts and allow them to come and go as they will. Take note of what emotions come up with certain thoughts and notice your reactions to them. If you focus on breathing, your thoughts will stop.

What type of meditation can I do for fertility?

Japa is the practice of repeating a mantra during your meditation. A mantra is a word you say over and over during meditation. Choose a word or phrase that lifts your spirit. It should be a positive, encouraging and helpful word that you want to manifest in your life. Examples can include peace, tranquility, surrender, baby or love.

How long should I meditate for?

You can start to meditate for a couple of minutes each day and increase as you go on. It is not so much how long, as it is the amount of awareness you give to your meditation. Whether you take ten minutes in the morning before work or indulge in a half hour before bed, setting aside time to quiet the mind is a must in this day and age of constant connectivity and chaos.
