This month, PregPrep caught up with maternity lifestyle maven, wellness & birth coach, and yogi master Latham Thomas. Latham has helped inspire and guide many lucky women through their maternity, birth, and early motherhood experience. She’s an inspiration to us too, as a woman who fully embodies what she strives to bring to others: a beaming healthy energy and the ability to take total delight in life. After just a minute with Latham we felt recharged, motivated, and calmed. We wanted to know the secret to her seemingly boundless vitality and have her share some of her insights on the subjects of conception and fertility.

1. What inspired you to create Mama Glow?
The inspiration to start Mama Glow came directly from my own incredibly positive pregnancy and birth experience. Throughout my pregnancy, labor and delivery, I had so much energy and creative power. I had a quick natural labor and walked home with my son 6 hours after birth; it was surreal. There was never once a moment of fear; my midwife believed in me and I felt like I could do anything. After my son was born, I felt compelled to write Mama Glow because I didn’t have a guide to work with when I was pregnant. I was figuring it out as I went along. I wanted to help other women experience radiant pregnancy and feel as empowered in the birth process as I had.

2.  How have you changed the lives of women pre, during, and post conception?
We offer women a wide range of resources to improve their pregnancy and birth experience. Our services include everything from nutrition and lifestyle counseling to yoga practice, doula support for the birth process, as well as post-natal guidance. We ultimately strive to help women feel celebrated.  We want to help them recognize that their bodies are fully capable of bringing forth life; that they are enough; that they are beautiful and powerful.

3. Can you share some advice for women who are trying to conceive?
Everyone gets really stressed about fertility. I tell women to stop “trying” and start being. Now what do I mean by that? Procreation, like any other natural process, does not require thinking, planning or strategizing. It shouldn’t only be about designing your sex life around when you are ovulating. It should be about practicing a lot with your partner, having a lot of good sex on a regular basis as a training ground to boost your fertility. With conception, I believe that it’s less about control and more about surrender. It’s about letting go and being receptive. And that can only happen when you relax and forget about the outcome. Focus on being in the moment. I say- embody sexiness and have fun!

4. As a mother and entrepreneur, how do you find balance?
I don’t believe in finding balance. That idea feels too static and abstract. I believe in working toward dynamic equilibrium.  Working toward dynamic equilibrium is the happy art of keeping everything flowing within the juggling act of life. There are the things that I have to get done, and around that, I make time for what’s most important to me: family and friends. I always make sure to set aside “glow time” for a revitalizing massage or a lunch date with a good friend. I also do my best to draw healthy boundaries and keep only positive energy around me. This makes it much easier to get everything done without feeling weighed down.

5. What’s next for Mama Glow?
We are celebrating our 3rd birthday and launching both a new website and mobile app experience. It’s a big move, but we’re really excited about venturing into the digital space. This expansion will allow us to easily bring women incredible wellness and lifestyle content daily. So please visit us!
